**Paul Moorcroft** and reseachers identify rising temperatures, drought, fire and rising CO2 as a few causes of increasing rates of tree mortality in moist tropical forests. In a study in [New Phytologist](http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/nph.15027/full), the team of researchers examine the drivers, mechanisms and interactions for increasing mortality rates and suggest steps to better understand and predict future mortality under climate change.
